YouTube Documentary

Image
After so much blood, sweat and tears the Documentary has finally been completed. Well there's no more to say, I really hope you enjoy. I actually had a lot of trouble during the making of this, for one thing I had to rebuild the video twice because some of the footage hadn't been backed up, I had to do this twice.

YouTube Project Summary

Image
Name of Project: Reece Hornibrook: Taken Too Soon The Idea When it comes to making YouTube Videos, I can be no stranger when it comes to putting them together, I've been doing so for at least 2 years, from editing Stop Motions and adding special effects to Animating my favourite Movie characters and writing my own stories, but the Documentary posed a challenge, as I had never written one before, i mean I've written biographies on Freddie Mercury and The Beatles, but this is something entirely different, because one of the rules was the topic of the documentary had to be withing the boundaries of our local area (meaning where we live), which actually proved tough because not much exciting stuff happens around Kings Lynn in my opinion, some people wrote about the Fete, some people wrote about Bonfire Night, there was even one about Sunday League Football an also one about War Veterans (credit to Ted for that one) but this was at first posing a serious challenge, then I rememb...

Lukes Session (22nd November)

In this session, we continued on our analysis of Documentaries, we recapped on what we did last week mainly for people who were off filming. Characteristics of a Documentary A Genre of Filmmaking which has a series of identifiable characteristics Super Size Me (a Film of Epic Proportions) was controversial when it was released due to the obesity epidemic in America. Later on, we watched a clip of Super Size Me that had been cut from the original Documentary, which was called “The Decomposition of McDonalds Burgers and Fries” and all I can say is that it was rather disturbing, there were Several Burgers (including a Royale with Cheese from Pulp Fiction) that rotted so badly that they were thrown out after 10 weeks. What makes a good Documentary? Some Documentaries can be really engaging, some can be hard to watch, some can feel slow and somewhat boring , so what makes a good Documentary? Tell a Story- keep to the chosen topic of your documentary, this is what has drawn you...

The Animation Process

In my Youtube Documentary, there are a few clips of animation with additional voiceover, so I’ll be explaining how exactly i did the Animation (plus added Voiceover) and how I got it into Premiere Pro. Step 1: The Animation This first step is the most crucial when animating the segments, firstly I have to open the Software and start a new project, then the work begins, I first insert a Background Image, this will serve.   As the main BG for the Clip/segment, then I start building the set for the Segment, then I add the main focus of the scene, that being the narrator, the rest is the simple case of taking a picture after another. Once the Animation is 100% complete, I then have to export it as an MP4 File which then goes into my Photos on my iPad, depending whether it needs a Voiceover, it’ll go into iMovie where I record the Voiceover. The Segments were then emailed to myself where I put them into Premiere Pro, which is the Editing Software I’m using for the Documentary.

November 21st

Our Morning session with Tony was about adding any finishing touches to our videos, editing them, or shooting the remaining footage, I spent the session finally putting the video together, as I had completed the Footage the day before since we weren't in college, I spent the Wednesday doing Voice overs and transferring files to gmail to help me put the video together. On Thursday when we were in college, I got the files onto the computer by plugging my I Pad into the Computer and transferring the video files, I'll admit I did suffer a few problems like when Premiere Pro would crash while i was trying to get to the files through my I Pad. After some trial and error, I put all the clips together in Premiere Pro, and after editing, the Documentary is now at an estimated time duration of 6:15 which isn't that bad at all

Friday 15th November

My current work on the Documentary is coming along well, I’ve completed most of the stuff I need, however instead of shooting footage I’m using Animated Footage, which is still in progress, i still feel that i need to complete some stuff for the documentary. How am I speaking  in this you might ask? I am planning on doing a voiceover on the Animated segments where i would normally speak, but this has to be done in unique conditions, for one thing the room would need to be in complete silence and I need my headset.

Everything completed in todays session 1) The Script The Script is complete and now includes Title cards and spaces for shot footage and other footage, also I’ve researched on the Internet through some other leads. 2) The “In memoriam” Shot I created a “In Memoriam” Shot to go at the end just before the Credits (yes I’m putting credits at the end of this) Things that need to be completed/worked on 1) Interviews I’ve been researching through the internet and I’ve decided to include interviews from people that knew Reece, two people I went to School with are being Interviewed for the piece, i still need to talk to them about it and see if they will agree to be interviewed, I’m considering showing only the Audio instead of the actual footage to hide their identities if they don’t want to be mentioned. 2) External Footage I still need to find some other footage to put in that hasn’t been shot by me
