The Reports (YouTube Documentary and BBC News Page)
The BBC News Page and Youtube Documentary projects are now completed.
Our first official project at college was to come up with a story to fit on a BBC News page on the BBC Website, this blog is an overview of the whole BBC Story.
BBC News Page Overview Report
Project Title
When writing a News story, you always need a title, the key thing is that it needs to be gripping and interesting, mine is "James Gunn new DC Film?" and I chose an image which contained the cast list for the movie.
The idea
every news story needs an idea, or a topic to be discussed, in some cases it may be news regarding a celebrity, or another boring report on politics, my idea is about the new Suicide Squad movie coming out, it's a big deal because my favourite Film director, James Gunn, will be writing and directing
the movie, my other ideas were mainly based around comic book films since I'm a huge fan of superheroes in general.
The research you undertook
obviously a task like this required massive amounts of research, mine was no exception, I had to research through some articles on the Internet and also I had to watch some videos on YouTube to help contribute to the effectiveness of my Article, including some of my own Youtube Videos
The Research for my article was extensive to say the least, I had to do research across the entire internet to find everything I needed, but I'll admit that most of the information was in my mkind already, because as mentioned before, i watch YouTube videos like this literally all the time (though now I've been leaning towards Doctor Who a bit more)
So most of the research came from
My own general knowledge (because i watch all this stuff in my spare time)
YouTube( Because thats all I watched when I wrote this but now Doctor Who seems to be taking over)
The Internet
My own Video for the project
news I hear on the internet
Due to the fact that I already had the video in place, there was no pre or post production paperwork, many other groups did however film their own videos, I was lucky that my chosen topic was already on something I covered on my own YouTube Channel, it was literally just sheer luck I had a video prepared beforehand.
The Target Audience
A Target Audience is always important for any kind of merchandise, TV Show, Movie or News Page, the story I wrote is primarily aimed at Comic Book Fans but also is aimed at casual Moviegoers and Hardcore Moviegoers who like these films and follow the industry or even work in it.
The Youtube Documentary Overview Report
The Idea
When it comes to making YouTube Videos, I can be no stranger when it comes to putting them together, I've been doing so for at least 2 years, from editing Stop Motions and adding special effects to Animating my favourite Movie characters and writing my own stories, but the Documentary posed a challenge, as I had never written one before, i mean I've written biographies on Freddie Mercury and The Beatles, but this is something entirely different, because one of the rules was the topic of the documentary had to be withing the boundaries of our local area (meaning where we live), which actually proved tough because not much exciting stuff happens around Kings Lynn in my opinion, some people wrote about the Fete, some people wrote about Bonfire Night, there was even one about Sunday League Football an also one about War Veterans (credit to Ted for that one) but this was at first posing a serious challenge, then I remembered about a teenager that had passed away a few months ago in the local area, some of my mates from High school were actually close with him, I myself had never met him before but from what I had heard of Reece at the time of his Death he definitely never deserved to die. i knew that a lot of research and hard work had to go into making sure this Documentary was perfect.
The Research I undertook for this video was very important, because when i did the BBC Article, I already had a vast amount of knowledge on the subject and I already had a video from my own YouTube Channel to work with, but starting from scratch would prove tricky, luckily I managed to find quite a few News Reports on various Websites, including BBC News, KLFM's Website and even the yourlocalpaper website. Which means i technically found 3 comparative examples, from Radio, the news and the local paper. I also thought to myself "Hey, I should look for some other footage that i myself hadn't filmed, so I looked across the Internet and on YouTube for videos related to the subject, and low and behold I found a video from the KLFM 96.7 YouTube Channel (Which is the local news station) and I screen grabbed the video and now it is in my project.
As the quality of the video increased, the amount of research needed would also increase, I researched through quite a lot of News Sites and other websites to find my research.
1: News sites
there was no doubt in my mind that I would have to look through news sites to obtain the research that i needed, the first place I looked for News coverage was the BBC News Website, and the site actually had some decent coverage of the story, there were roughly around 5 to maybe even 7 news pages about the story, all related, some were about the actual death, one was about the funeral and there was one about the plea hearing. With all the research from the news sites that I had compiled, I knew this Documentary would be really good
2: Social Media
I of course went to social media to see if I could find some research to use, and there wasn't much that I had to work with, Tributes were poured out on social media to pray for Reece's Life, that immediately made me think "wasn't there an Instagram page to pray for Reece?" an as it turns out, I was right, I found the 'prayforreece' Instagram Page and this has been mentioned in my video/Documentary.
3: YouTube
I definitely had a very strong feeling that Reece's death must've been mentioned on YouTube somehow, and it took me a couple days to find something connected to the incident, and after roughly 2 days of searching I had found what was looking for, I had found a video of Reece's memorial walk on YouTube, this was actually (to the best of my knowledge) what paid for Reece's Funeral and I managed to screen record the video on my Phone, which I then transferred to my iPad for editing roughly and trimming down the bits i didn't need, then I plugged my iPad into the Computer i was working at and I inserted the edited Clip into Premiere Pro.
4: KLFM
I had a strong feeling that KLFM would've covered Reece's death in some capacity, as mentioned earlier they did cover the story on their YouTube Channel when everyone paid their respects for Reece at the Walks, but I also went to the KLFM Website and they had also covered the story line there in a small capacity, I very quickly implemented the news from KLFM into my script for the story, KLFM is a good source for the story as it is the local Radio Station, this was a good source for the story because as of now, my Documentary is now at 6 minutes long.
5: The Documentary
Of course, my Documentary (at least on a technicality) is also a source of information for the research, as the Documentary became longer, my will to research became stronger, and the Documentary had been completed
The 3 Comparative examples for the Documentary were interesting to say the least, while the Documentaries that I watched weren't related to the subject of my Documentary, I still watched them.
Documentary 1) Queen: Days of our Lives (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMbfHsA_ar8)
As you may be able to tell, this Documentary is about the popular British Rock Band Queen, the Days of our Lives Documentary details the Band's long career from the Bands first formation in the Late 1960's to their Frontman Freddie Mercury's death in 1991, the Documentary covers the Band's struggles in their early days, the albums they released and also the Band's inner conflicts with each other, there were also some funny stories in the Documentary, there was a story about Roger Taylor (The Band's Drummer) and the entertainment at the Launch Party for Queen's newest Album Jazz, which contained some of Queen's Greatest Hits. Roger talked about this man who would lay under meats and as people went to go and scoop their meats he would move in some way, "and that was his act" as Roger put it.
Documentary 2) The Documentary we watched with Luke
I can't remember the name of this Documentary but with what I can remember it was about people who get swept up in dealing weed in the mountains of America, the Documentary I thought was quite interesting but I was doing some editing on the Blog so there were some parts that I had missed.
Documentary 3) My Documentary
I guess you could say the project itself counts as another Documentary example, anyway we already know what my Documentary is about so I feel like we don't need to go into much detail.
