BBC Story Overview

Our first official project at college was to come up with a story to fit on a BBC News page on the BBC Website, this blog is an overview of the whole BBC Story.

Project Title
When writing a News story, you always need a title, the key thing is that it needs to be gripping and interesting, mine is "James Gunn new DC Film?" and I chose an image which contained the cast list for the movie.

The idea
every news story needs an idea, or a topic to be discussed, in some cases it may be news regarding a celebrity, or another boring report on politics, my idea is about the new Suicide Squad movie coming out, it's a big deal because my favourite Film director, James Gunn, will be writing and directing
the movie, my other ideas were mainly based around comic book films since I'm a huge fan of superheroes in general.

The research you undertook
obviously a task like this required massive amounts of research, mine was no exception, I had to research through some articles on the Internet and also I had to watch some videos on YouTube to help contribute to the effectiveness of my Article, including some of my own Youtube Videos

The Research for my article was extensive to say the least, I had to do research across the entire internet to find everything I needed, but I'll admit that most of the information was in my mkind already, because as mentioned before, i watch YouTube videos like this literally all the time (though now I've been leaning towards Doctor Who a bit more)

Due to the fact that I already had the video in place, there was no pre or post production paperwork, many other groups did however film their own videos, I was lucky that my chosen topic was already on something I covered on my own YouTube Channel, it was literally just sheer luck I had a video prepared beforehand.


The Target Audience
A Target Audience is always important for any kind of merchandise, TV Show, Movie or News Page, the story I wrote is primarily aimed at Comic Book Fans but also is aimed at casual Moviegoers and Hardcore Moviegoers

When it came to developing the main story, it had become quite tricky, but my extensive research and knowledge on the subject of my BBC Article, my primary source of information was my general knowledge, but I did conduct some other research to make sure that I had the information I required, we first started the project by writing a Press Release, which was essentially our first draft of the article, later on we had to cut out some of the less important detail that wasn't required.

The Final BBC Design Solution
We developed the actual Page through Photoshop, where we obtained a BBC News Page Template to use in Photoshop, I immediately set to work on making sure that my BBC Page was perfect, I first started by breaking down the new Press Release into sections which would be separate Paragraphs.
After the Text was inserted, I then had to put the pictures in that I had required for the News Page, this was for the main news page, I would later acquire some images for the sidebar and I made sure that they were related in some way to the topic that I had chosen, there are at least 6 images in the sidebar all relating in some way to my chosen topic for the Article, I had written about the recent stories at that time which related to Comic Books and Superhero Movies in general.

James Gunn New DC Film?

Guardians of the Galaxy director unveils cast for exciting new movie

In 2018, James Gunn was approached by Warner Bros to direct a DC Movie for them. Among those options was a Suicide Squad movie. Gunn is now set to Direct and Write the Movie, he recently unveiled the cast on social media saying, “Don’t get too attached”

The original suicide Squad movie was directed by David Ayer and released in August 2016, the film was a commercial and critical flop and the sequel was in jeopardy. Recently, Gunn unveiled the cast for the new reboot, which is set to release in 2021, during that same year, Matt Reeves will release “The Batman” which releases June 21^st.

The cast includes returning actors from the original 2016 Film, Margot Robbie will return as Harley Quinn, Robbie does actually return as Harley in the upcoming “Birds of Prey” set to release in February of 2020, Jai Courtney will return as Digger Harkness aka Captain Boomerang, who is commonly associated with the Flash, Joel Kinnaman will return as Rick Flag, the main leader of the team and Viola Davis returns as Amanda Waller, the Mastermind behind the Squad.

Among other recognisable Stars from other Comic Book Movies are Michael Rooker and Sean Gunn, who both previously worked with James Gunn on both “Guardians of the Galaxy” Films. Also, “Thor: Ragnarok” Director Taika Watiti, David Dastmalchain from 2015’s “Ant Man” also is in the movie, as is Idris Elba, who played Heimdall in the MCU until “Avengers: Infinity War”

Another highlight among the cast is former Doctor Who Star Peter Capaldi, who recently said that he shaved his head because his character is completely bald and requires facial prosthetics, this has led to some speculation that Capaldi may be playing Batman Villain Mr Freeze.

Other Actors cast in the Film include John Cena, Joaquin Cosio, Nathan Fillion, Mayling Ng, Flua Borg, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, who is playing the Daughter of Idris Elba’s character, who its possible could be Deathstroke. Alice Braga is also in the film, another actor in the movie is Actor Steve Agee, who has been confirmed to be playing Dc Comics Villain King Shark, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melanchior, Julio Ruiz and Jennifer Holland have also been cast in the Film, it is unknown at this stage who most of these actors are playing, but some speculation has emerged online.

As we mentioned earlier, it has been speculated that Capaldi will be playing Mr Freeze, but other speculation is that Idris Elba could be playing any character from the comics, some have suggested that he will play Benjamin Turner aka Bronze Tiger who is an expert martial artist, if Elba was to play Bronze Tiger, he would be playing a similar role to the one he played as Brixton in the recent “Hobbs and Shaw” Movie, some others think he’d be more suited for playing Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke, who was a Military Soldier that was the subject of a failed Medical Experiment, Deathstroke’s last known live action appearance was on Season 6 of Arrow where he was played by Manu Bennett. However, he is currently being played by Esai Morales on the 2nd Season of “Titans.”

James Gunn has said that the Film is a relaunch of the film from 2016, it is essentially a reboot, the relaunch doesn’t include Deadshot due to scheduling Conflicts with Will Smith and due to the Backlash he received for his portrayal, Jared Leto and the Joker have been written out of the story, Gunn also has said that Batman will not appear in the movie, Ben Affleck appeared as the Dark Knight in the original film back in 2016.

So, will Gunn do justice to a film that was inspired by the Guardians, or will this be a repeat of the past?
