Advertorial Project Report
Project title: Best
Batman Game yet?
Telltale’s Batman tells a story like no
other.
The idea: The
Advertorial did take a while for me to develop, because I hadn’t played this
game in years, however to complete research I decided to the first 20 minutes
or so of the first episode and it brought back some memories, of course I had
to do some other research as well, I went onto YouTube and watched a few
gameplay videos so I could explain in my Advertorial how the game’s choices
work.
go back
and play through
Of
course, after playing through the first 20 minutes or so of the game, I knew
that the segment I played of the first Episode would count as research, as the
Advertorial I’m writing about is based around a game, so the first source of
research I used for my Advertorial.
My 2nd
source for Research was YouTube, because I had to find Gameplay videos to help
me complete the Advertorial and for the Viral Video, which I had to Screen
Record some Gameplay for, so the 2nd source of Research was YouTube
My 3rd
source of Research was my Viral Video, which counts as a source of Primary
Research (Research that you collect yourself) I had to animate a few segments
of the video, but I did have to write and conduct my own research for the Viral
Video.
My 4th
Source of research was my Gaming Channel on YouTube, so I recently started a
Gaming Channel and the First 3 videos are on Batman: The Telltale Series, I
split up the Episode into 3 Parts because it’s easier for my iPad not to crash
and also, I can schedule the videos to be uploaded on a certain day which makes
things much easier for me.
My 5th
and final source of Research was the Advertorial itself, which I believe is
completed to near completion, due to my general knowledge on the subject I was
able to complete the Advertorial Campaign quite easily.
The
Target Audience of the Game was intended for those over the age of 18 in the UK
due to the Age rating Sticker, the age rating system actually varies both in
the UK and in America, for example we use Numbers for our Game Age ratings,
here in the UK, our Age rating goes (3,7,12,16,18) and we also get symbols for
certain warnings for content that may be in the game such as swearing,
violence, Drug use and sex scenes, for example the Racing Game Trailblazers
which is a racing game is rated Pegi 3, the next rating up is Pegi 7, this is
what games like Lego use because there is moderate violence in the games,
however 5the games themselves are still made for kids, the next rating up is
Pegi 12, now here things start to change, games like Sims 4 and Fortnite use
this Age rating because it’s primarily for people of that age. Pegi 16 is the 2nd
age rating that is primarily used for war games like Battlefield and Call of
Duty. Pegi 18 games are the highest rated games and they contain a lot of
graphic stuff including Smoking, violence, sex and Drug use, there is also
Blood and gore in some of these games, games like GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2
and some of Telltale’s games are rated Pegi 18 because of their in-game content,
Horror Games also use the Pegi 18 rating because they are really scary and not
meant for people under that specific age target.
The
process of writing the Advertorial was my 2nd favorite part of doing
this project, the 1st being creating the Viral video, I liked
writing up the Advertorial because it was on a subject that I myself enjoyed as
a traditional game, Batman Fan and part-time comic Writer, despite my general
knowledge on the subject, I still had to do a great deal of research. So, I
played through around 20 minutes of the game, watched some other people playing
the game on YouTube and wrote it up in my work and even used some of the
footage I found in my Viral video.
The
narrative of my Advertorial was essentially a review of some of the game’s
events and explaining the game’s choices and their consequences in the next few
episodes.
The final
process of the Advertorial was very difficult to say the least, because we had
all undertaken a lot of research, but the Advertorial was really coming
together, I had the main structure of the Advertorial in place, then I had t6o
put in the Pictures, Background and not to mention the large amounts of text
that were based on my Research, Tony taught us how to put the text in because
you can’t just copy and paste everything into Adobe InDesign just like that, we
had to split up our research into separate word documents, then we would insert
said document into already placed Text Boxes.
The
Video’s post production wasn’t so tricky, after animating everything and
collecting the footage that I required for my Viral Video, I had to put it
together, but it I didn’t just go from animating and filming to editing, I had
the animation part animated in separate pieces, kid of like a jigsaw puzzle
that I needed to put together, what I did first was I put together the Animated
segment in iMovie, which is the software I use for my YouTube videos, anyway
once I put together the Animation I had to do the Voiceover for it, this shows
that the Animation will have sound and helps apply my skills to the project. When
it came to te gaming footage that I had collected, I had some more work to do,
the clips I had collected were too long for the time limit that I was aiming
for, so what I did was I cropped up the footage I had collected and it fit
together well, after doing the voiceover for that I transferred all the edited
footage to my Hard Drive where I stored it until the Viral Video was ready to
be edited in Premiere Pro.
Test
against your target audience + feedback. When I tested my Target Audience, I
got some interesting Feedback, when I showed off the Advertorial to some
people, they told me that they were finding some of the text rather hard to
read, so I changed the Font and the color of the text.
I would
say the Outcome of my Advertorial Campaign was actually successful, I feel that
I’ve definitely put a lot of work into this project, although there are some
things I would go back and change like how I structured everything an I would
go back and maybe improve the viral video, but despite that I still think that
I did pretty well.
