The Reports (YouTube Documentary and BBC News Page)

The BBC News Page and Youtube Documentary projects are now completed. Our first official project at college was to come up with a story to fit on a BBC News page on the BBC Website, this blog is an overview of the whole BBC Story. BBC News Page Overview Report Project Title When writing a News story, you always need a title, the key thing is that it needs to be gripping and interesting, mine is "James Gunn new DC Film?" and I chose an image which contained the cast list for the movie. The idea every news story needs an idea, or a topic to be discussed, in some cases it may be news regarding a celebrity, or another boring report on politics, my idea is about the new Suicide Squad movie coming out, it's a big deal because my favourite Film director, James Gunn, will be writing and directing the movie, my other ideas were mainly based around comic book films since I'm a huge fan of superheroes in general. The research you undertook obviously a task like ...

YouTube Documentary

Image
After so much blood, sweat and tears the Documentary has finally been completed. Well there's no more to say, I really hope you enjoy. I actually had a lot of trouble during the making of this, for one thing I had to rebuild the video twice because some of the footage hadn't been backed up, I had to do this twice.

YouTube Project Summary

Image
Name of Project: Reece Hornibrook: Taken Too Soon The Idea When it comes to making YouTube Videos, I can be no stranger when it comes to putting them together, I've been doing so for at least 2 years, from editing Stop Motions and adding special effects to Animating my favourite Movie characters and writing my own stories, but the Documentary posed a challenge, as I had never written one before, i mean I've written biographies on Freddie Mercury and The Beatles, but this is something entirely different, because one of the rules was the topic of the documentary had to be withing the boundaries of our local area (meaning where we live), which actually proved tough because not much exciting stuff happens around Kings Lynn in my opinion, some people wrote about the Fete, some people wrote about Bonfire Night, there was even one about Sunday League Football an also one about War Veterans (credit to Ted for that one) but this was at first posing a serious challenge, then I rememb...

Lukes Session (22nd November)

In this session, we continued on our analysis of Documentaries, we recapped on what we did last week mainly for people who were off filming. Characteristics of a Documentary A Genre of Filmmaking which has a series of identifiable characteristics Super Size Me (a Film of Epic Proportions) was controversial when it was released due to the obesity epidemic in America. Later on, we watched a clip of Super Size Me that had been cut from the original Documentary, which was called “The Decomposition of McDonalds Burgers and Fries” and all I can say is that it was rather disturbing, there were Several Burgers (including a Royale with Cheese from Pulp Fiction) that rotted so badly that they were thrown out after 10 weeks. What makes a good Documentary? Some Documentaries can be really engaging, some can be hard to watch, some can feel slow and somewhat boring , so what makes a good Documentary? Tell a Story- keep to the chosen topic of your documentary, this is what has drawn you...

The Animation Process

In my Youtube Documentary, there are a few clips of animation with additional voiceover, so I’ll be explaining how exactly i did the Animation (plus added Voiceover) and how I got it into Premiere Pro. Step 1: The Animation This first step is the most crucial when animating the segments, firstly I have to open the Software and start a new project, then the work begins, I first insert a Background Image, this will serve.   As the main BG for the Clip/segment, then I start building the set for the Segment, then I add the main focus of the scene, that being the narrator, the rest is the simple case of taking a picture after another. Once the Animation is 100% complete, I then have to export it as an MP4 File which then goes into my Photos on my iPad, depending whether it needs a Voiceover, it’ll go into iMovie where I record the Voiceover. The Segments were then emailed to myself where I put them into Premiere Pro, which is the Editing Software I’m using for the Documentary.

November 21st

Our Morning session with Tony was about adding any finishing touches to our videos, editing them, or shooting the remaining footage, I spent the session finally putting the video together, as I had completed the Footage the day before since we weren't in college, I spent the Wednesday doing Voice overs and transferring files to gmail to help me put the video together. On Thursday when we were in college, I got the files onto the computer by plugging my I Pad into the Computer and transferring the video files, I'll admit I did suffer a few problems like when Premiere Pro would crash while i was trying to get to the files through my I Pad. After some trial and error, I put all the clips together in Premiere Pro, and after editing, the Documentary is now at an estimated time duration of 6:15 which isn't that bad at all

Friday 15th November

My current work on the Documentary is coming along well, I’ve completed most of the stuff I need, however instead of shooting footage I’m using Animated Footage, which is still in progress, i still feel that i need to complete some stuff for the documentary. How am I speaking  in this you might ask? I am planning on doing a voiceover on the Animated segments where i would normally speak, but this has to be done in unique conditions, for one thing the room would need to be in complete silence and I need my headset.

Everything completed in todays session 1) The Script The Script is complete and now includes Title cards and spaces for shot footage and other footage, also I’ve researched on the Internet through some other leads. 2) The “In memoriam” Shot I created a “In Memoriam” Shot to go at the end just before the Credits (yes I’m putting credits at the end of this) Things that need to be completed/worked on 1) Interviews I’ve been researching through the internet and I’ve decided to include interviews from people that knew Reece, two people I went to School with are being Interviewed for the piece, i still need to talk to them about it and see if they will agree to be interviewed, I’m considering showing only the Audio instead of the actual footage to hide their identities if they don’t want to be mentioned. 2) External Footage I still need to find some other footage to put in that hasn’t been shot by me

YouTube Documentary

Our next big project is to create a Documentary that will go up on YouTube, currently as of the time I'm writing this, i have a rough idea of what to do for the Documentary, but that I will save for another blog entry

Completed BBC News Page

Image
This is my completed BBC news page created through Adobe Photoshop, the layout is mainly used to show what the news story would look like on a BBC News Page, I went all out with making this thing look good, the main thing to note is the picture at the top of the video, this is the logo for the film I am writing about. as you are able to see, I added some other stories that are actually real, for example the top one, this is actor Tom Welling, who played Clark Kent in the TV Series "Smallville," he is returning to play a role in the upcoming DCTV Crossover "Crisis on Infinite Earths," which is based on a DC comic book story-line of the same name. The other stories are also real, because these are all subjects of web articles on other news sites in America since these are all news stories from America. The picture you can see at the bottom is meant to represent the video that I would insert at the bottom of the actual web Page when I created it, since I have a Y...

In our lesson with Foxy today, we were learning about lighting, Foxy showed us how to work and operate the lights and also how to work the camera, here are some pictures I took during the session The first picture as you can see is of some of the gang hard at work learning how the equipment works thanks to Foxy, during the session, I learnt how all of the lights and equipment works.  As you can see here, the second picture again shows all the gang hard at work learning to use the equipment

3rd October 2019

Today in our session with Tony, we were to complete the BBC Article we had been working on for a few weeks, we also had to complete a script and storyboard that would go on our page, i however have a YouTube channel I have a video on my topic of choosing for my article. we are getting everything ready for our sessions tomorrow with Luke and Foxy, Foxy will be checking our videos while Luke is going to be checking our Article because hes more of a Photoshop guy since he's been teaching us how to use the software. During one of our earlier sessions with Luke, I told him about my YouTube Channel and the videos I upload and how I have a keen eye for animation.. This is the Video I’m using

BBC Story Feedback

Today, we were put into groups of 4 and were to read our BBC Articles out to each other in said group Feedback Below Kieran: "lots of information, really interesting, I loved it, the pictures and sidebar where really related to the article and really draw reader attention. only problem is there is a really huge paragraph block that needs to be smaller to maintain interest" Shay: "was good" Peter "very good information I didn't know this was happening"

Recapping the Week (From Wednesday 18th September to Friday 20th September)

This week of College was about our BBC News Article and building it up Wednesday Wednesday's session with Tony was about introducing us to the topic and coming up with our story, we learnt about how articles are written, we also got the chance to write our own article, my article was on the upcoming DC Film "The Suicide Squad" which will be released in 2021, i am very passionate about Comic Books and Superhero Movies in general, I also write my own Comic Books, my hero's name is "Super Albie," he is essentially an amalgamation of some character traits from other superheroes, more specifically Batman and Iron Man, Super Albie has Iron Man's Advanced Technology and Batman's sense of right and wrong, in fact some of my comics are sort of based on Batman story lines from the DC Comics. Anyway, the Wednesday session was about writing a first draft of our article, later on we were put in groups of 3 with people we didn't know well, which helped some...

Lesson with Foxy (20th September) Editing

video Recorded with the Quicktime Software Our lesson with Foxy today was about editing using Adobe Premiere Pro, in Premiere Pro we call Folders Bins for some reason. Bins= Folders You need to create Folders in Premiere Bin 1: Scene 1 Bin 2: VFX Bin 3: Sound/Audio Bin 4: Scene 2            Scene 3            Scene 4             ETC (however many scenes there are in your film QT Edit Technique SD Card: Clips on SD Card Folder-Private-AVCHD-.mts File (Clips) Top File (Hold Shift) "  "  Bottom file I feel today that I have learned a lot in this session, hopefully I can use these skills down the line during the course. We used Quicktime to record the screen of our computer.

BBC Article

Today, in our lesson with Tony, we were working on our BBC News Article, my original idea was to talk about the new Joker Movie being released, but apparently it had already been done, i then thought of some other ideas, some included "is Spider Man better with Disney?" "The new Batman Movie" and "Has the MCU changed Superhero Movies?" but in the end, I decided to talk about the new Suicide Squad film being directed by James Gunn, I talked about Gunn being fired by Disney and also about the cast of the movie, I also mentioned how the Joker and Batman won't be in the movie, Joker won't be in the film due to the backlash Jared Leto's portrayal received in the 2016 film. Later on, we were split into groups of three, we were partnered with people we didn't know well, this was to help us get to know other people in the group. the other 2 article ideas were "Is the BBC Not Relevant to Teens?" and "Life on the Road 2019, does lif...

Photoshop

Image
In our lesson with Luke today, we were learning about how to use Photoshop, our Endgame if you will is to make a Movie Poster using Photoshop. During the lesson, we learnt how to use all the tools and everything and how to edit photos using the various tools. During this session, I managed to construct this, it is a poster for the upcoming Doctor Strange Sequel which releases in roughly two years. I felt that the lesson was really good and i feel like I learned a lot in using the software and how to edit photos. we managed to remove backgrounds and how to make movie posters, well the poster is what i did.

Lesson with Foxy

Image
Our lesson today with Foxy was about operating and using the cameras, when thinking about sound, we need to think about the sensitivity of the microphone and the sound. We also need to think about the Boom, which essentially is an extendable stick with a microphone on the end, the directional microphones help with sound effects when it comes to guns. External Microphones are external to the camera, when recording with the camera we have to use Headphones to help avoid distortion. White Balance is to make sure the lighting is just right when filming with the camera. we also learnt about exposure, the dark and light parts and also learning about why news is called news. Focus means to focus on something through the camera, this is what makes everything in camera look pristine and high definition, when out of focus everything in the camera goes blurry. This session was pretty good, I learned a lot and on top of that, I had a pretty hilarious Teacher

BBC News Page Ideas

We are currently working towards creating a story for a BBC News Page, my original idea was to include something to do with the new Joker film thats coming out soon, but that has already been on the site, so my next idea is to debate whether Spider Man belongs with Disney in the MCU or with Sony in their own universe with the other Spider Man Marvel Characters.

The Induction Protocol

Image
Induction project The topic for the short film project was an object, we came up with the idea that a fuggler goes around and eats and licks random stuff. The film then ends with the monster licking Tony. On our second day we started shooting, we used a variety of shots and sequences such as close ups, wide angles pan sequences. Our director (Ted) instructed Tony on how to act and arranged his positioning on camera. Later that day we reviewed our footage and decided what else we could add or still needed to shoot. We used a tri pod (legs) to get many stable shots of the main character, then our cameramen (Luke and Ainslie) got many mid shots and shot the same scene in a variety of angles. The settings for inside that were used were: ND filter on 0, and Auto White Balance. We redid the White Balance for outside, and put the ND filter on full, to account for the increased exposure. On the next day we did reshoots and started the editing process later on in the d...
